On Thursday, 10 March, the Saeima in the second and final reading supported the urgent amendments to the Electronic Communications Law, authorising the National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) to restrict access to websites available in the territory of Latvia disseminating content that threatens or may endanger national security or public order and security.

On Thursday, 10 March, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading urgent amendments to the Law on support for the civilian population of Ukraine, which sets out additional mechanisms for Ukrainian civilians to receive support.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, 8 March, the Speakers of Parliament of Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania expressed their support for Ukraine’s efforts on its way to the European Union (EU) and called for Ukraine to be granted the EU candidate status as soon as possible.

"Ukraine is making every effort to defend freedom and democracy - values that unite the countries of the European Union (EU) - and it should be admitted to the EU," said Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, upon meeting with Olexandr Mischenko, Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Latvia, at the Parliament on Tuesday, 8 March.

On Friday, 4 March, Speaker of the Saeima Ināra Mūrniece participated in an extraordinary remote meeting of the Speakers of Parliaments of the European Union (EU) at which the attendees heard from the Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk, as well as expressed a position against the war initiated by Russia. Speaker Mūrniece stressed that Europe is experiencing the worst times of the 21st century.

"When we used to talk about freedom, sovereignty and democracy, we took it as self-evident concepts. Now these words and their essence have a completely different meaning. War has entered the European continent. At this dangerous time, coordinated action and support for Ukraine is particularly important," stressed Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, on Friday, 4 March, during a video conference meeting with the Speakers of the Baltic and Nordic (NB8) Parliaments to discuss the current security situation in the region and the provision of support to Ukraine, which resists Russia’s military aggression and large-scale invasion.

On Thursday, 3 March, the Saeima unanimously adopted a Statement on granting the European Union candidate status to Ukraine. Members of the Saeima recognise that every possible option should be employed to help Ukraine withstand the fight to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

On Thursday, 3 March, the Saeima adopted in the second and final reading the urgent Law on support for the civilian population of Ukraine.

On Thursday, 3 March, the Saeima adopted in the final reading urgent amendments to the Medical Treatment Law delegating the Cabinet of Ministers to establish regulations regarding the import and export of human blood and blood components.
