To enforce the sanctions set by the European Union and reduce security risks, on Thursday, 2 November, the Saeima supported, in the final reading, urgent amendments to the Road Traffic Law. The amendments prohibit Russian vehicles from participating in road traffic if they are not registered in Latvia by the specified deadline.

In addition to fences and patrol paths, technological infrastructure is also necessary on the eastern border. To expedite the outfitting of the border with the required technology, on Thursday, 2 November, the Saeima supported in the final reading amendments to the Law on Construction of the External Land Border Infrastructure.

"Ukraine can count on Latvia's unwavering support, including at the parliamentary level. We will continue to stand with Ukraine. The most important thing we can do now is to encourage your accession to both NATO and the European Union. We make all efforts to keep this issue high on the agenda because we consider Europe to be safer together with Ukraine," said Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Saeima, during a meeting with Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in Prague, the Czech capital, on Tuesday, 24 October.

“Russia’s atrocities have not crushed the bravery of Ukraine’s defenders. Likewise, we must not show doubt in response to Russia’s aggression. Russia will interpret our doubt as a chance. A chance to sooner or later break our courage and our resolve with threats and atrocities,” stated Daiga Mieriņa, Speaker of the Saeima, on Tuesday, 24 October, addressing the participants of the Second Parliamentary Summit of the International Crimea Platform in the Czech capital Prague.

On Wednesday, 18 October, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Saeima adopted a statement expressing its concern about the continuing tensions in Israel and the Palestinian territories and the increasing number of civilian casualties directly resulting from the brutal assault on Israel by the terrorist organisation Hamas.

During the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in Strasbourg, France, Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima and Head of the Latvian delegation to PACE, called for seizing Russian assets to support Ukraine.

On Thursday, 12 October, in response to the large-scale coordinated attack on Israel by the terrorist organisation Hamas, the Saeima adopted a statement on support for the State of Israel.

On Thursday, 12 October, at an event held at the Jewish Community Centre to show solidarity with the State of Israel, Speaker of the Saeima Daiga Mieriņa addressed the attendees to express heartfelt support: "Our hearts and minds are with you at this time."

On Wednesday, 11 October, the heads of the delegations to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) from the Baltic and Nordic (NB8) countries adopted a statement, strongly condemning the inacceptable and inhumane attacks by Hamas on Israel and the Israeli people and deeply deploring the loss of innocent lives on both sides.

"Russia's abduction of children is a combination of genocide and russification policies aimed at erasing Ukraine's national identity and culture", said Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, Deputy Speaker of the Saeima and Head of the Latvian Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), at the opening of the event Uprooted Children: How the Russian Federation Deports Ukrainian Children and Erases their National Identity, organised jointly by the Latvian and Ukrainian delegations in Strasbourg on Tuesday, 10 October.
