During Latvia’s Centenary XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Festival parliamentarians from several countries will be visiting Latvia.
Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, will be attending events of the Song and Dance Festival in the company of, inter alia, Eiki Nestor, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Estonia; Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Lithuania; and Paula Risikko, Speaker of the parliament of the Republic of Finland.
Furthermore, Hirofumi Nakasone, member of the House of Councillors of the National Diet of Japan and Chair of the Japan-Latvia Parliamentary Friendship Group, will be visiting Latvia on 7-11 July. Parliamentarians from Lithuania and Germany will also be attending events of the Festival.
On 7 July, foreign parliamentarians are invited to attend the large-scale dance performance “Māras zeme” (Māra’s Land) in Daugava stadium, and on Sunday, 8 July, the closing concert “Zvaigžņu ceļā” (Following the Starry Path) at Mežaparks Open-air Stage.
On Sunday, 8 July, Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima, Edgars Rinkēvičs, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Dace Melbārde, Minister of Culture, will be hosting a joint reception for the foreign guests dedicated to the Nationwide Latvian Song and dance festival.
Speaker Mūrniece will also meet with Suma Chakrabarti, President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, who will be visiting Latvia on 8-9 July to attend the Festival, alongside more official matters.
As the State of Latvia celebrates its centennial, the XXVI Nationwide Latvian Song and XVI Dance Festival is held on 30 June-8 July this year. The Festival gathers approximately 40 000 participants. The tradition of holding the Song and Dance Festivals in Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia has been recognised internationally by UNESCO granting it the status of a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage.
